Party favor for quilters

A gift pocket for each party goer
Our quilt guild's monthly meeting was last night -- our annual Christmas party.    A pot luck meal, a short business meeting, door prizes, a Christmas theme project "challenge" with winners announced, and a game where 5" squares were won and lost.

It was a busy, fun-filled evening.  I thought you might enjoy seeing the "party favor" that was waiting on the tables for each guild member.   It was a gift pocket, with a gift inside.  (click on each photo for an enlarged view)

place setting for each guest
Those of us who sewed the gift pockets chose 2 matching or coordinating 5-inch Christmas fabric squares.  One square was folded in half, and it was sewn to the other 5-inch square along the raw edges with large stitches, creating a pocket. (The stitches were large so they can be removed without a fuss, making the fabric squares easily usable.)

A little "Pieced Tree Pattern" was placed in each pocket.  You've probably seen these little items  displayed in quilt shops.  Each pattern is complete on the front and back of a 3" x 5" laminated card.   The patterns vary.  There are ones for table runners, table toppers, small quilts, and large quilts.   The designer, Shelley Robson, just reached her goal of 100 different patterns.

We didn't have to go far to find the entire collection of 100 to choose from.  Shelley lives in Forest City, Iowa (home of Winnebago Industries), only 35 miles from my home.

A team of Santas last night, ready to be eaten
All potluck meals are fun to attend.  There are always new dishes to try and a surprise or two.  One dessert was the most fun to see.  It was a large tray of cream-filled strawberry Santas.  Instructions are available online somewhere.   I just googled "cream filled strawberry Santa" and found a lot of photos--Santas standing in "snow" (sugar), Santas with choc. chip eyes, Santas with beards, on and on.  Cute to look at and delicious to eat.
I hope your Christmas parties are as enjoyable as our guild party was last night.

That is a clever party favor idea. I have a few of those patterns on the laminated card. I've made a couple of them--table runners, I think.
Cute little Santas. Who thinks of these things? : )

Really like the idea of the pockets ... and being basted closed so the stitching can be quickly unsewn so the fabric can be used. And LOVE the strawberry Santas :)

Great little table favors, and a great idea to keep the stitches large enough to be snipped, making those cute squares useable! Yummy treats too!
